Musketeers clinch bye to BIG EAST Semifinals, will face Georgetown for BIG EAST Regular Season Championship on Thursday
MILWAUKEEÂ - No. 25 Xavier women's moved back into a tie for first place in the BIG EAST standings after picking up a 2-1 win over Marquette on Sunday afternoon at Valley Fields. The Musketeers are now 14-2-2 overall with a 7-1-1 record in BIG EAST play going into the final match of the regular season.
Xavier struck early, with Maddie Reed setting Samantha Erbach up for her 10th goal of the season in the 10th minute, giving the Musketeers the 1-0 lead. Marquette tied the match up less than three minutes later, with the 1-1 tie holding into the half. Xavier had a 9-4 advantage on shots in the first half, with six of those shots coming from Samantha Erbach, who had five looks on-goal in the first 45 minutes.
Less than 15 minutes into the second half, Regan Dancer put the Musketeers back in front, scoring in the 56th minute to give Xavier the 2-1 advantage. Xavier's defense held the Golden Eagles without a shot for the first 25 minutes of the second half, and only allowed three Marquette shots total after halftime. Just one Marquette look went on frame, collected for a save by Maria Galley, to keep the Musketeers' 2-1 lead in tact.
Xavier now matches Georgetown on top of the BIG EAST standings with 22 points. The Musketeers and the Hoyas, who were inactive on Sunday, will play the regular season finale on Thursday, Oct. 31, at Shaw Field in Washington, D.C. with the BIG EAST Regular Season Championship on the line. The match is set to get underway at 2:00 p.m. on FloSports.

- Samantha Erbach scored in a fifth-straight match, now with a team-high 10 goals for the season. Combined with four assists, she has 24 points, second most on the team. Erbach played the full 90 minutes for the first time in her collegiate career and finished with a career-high six shots on-goal.
- Regan Dancer scored her sixth goal of the season, and her team-high matching third game-winner, combining with an assist to give her 13 points.
- Maddie Reed picked up an assist on Erbach's first half goal, marking the defender's first point as a Musketeer.
- Reed, as well as Natalie Bain, Brooklynn Miltenberger, McKinley Berry and Samantha Wiehe all played the full 90 minutes for the Xavier defense, limiting the Golden Eagles to just three shots on frame. Zoé Van de Cloot also played 85 minutes.
- Maria Galley collected a pair of saves on the way to her 14th win of the season, which matches her career high for a single season.
- Xavier clinched a top-two finish in the BIG EAST and a bye to the BIG EAST Semifinals, set for Thursday, Nov. 7, at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Boyds, Md.Â
- The top-two finish in the BIG EAST standings marks the fourth-straight year Xavier has earned a bye to the Semifinals and the fifth time in sixth years.
- A win or a draw at Georgetown in the regular season finale would give the Musketeers a share of BIG EAST Regular Season Championship for the fourth time in six seasons.
