Women's Soccer Falls at No. 20 Georgetown, Finishes Second in BIG EAST Standings

Musketeers earned a bye to the BIG EAST Semifinals, set for Nov. 7 in Boyds, Md.
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Xavier women's soccer fell to No. 20 Georgetown, 2-0, at Shaw Field on Thursday to wrap up the regular season schedule. The Musketeers moved to 14-3-2 overall and 7-2-1 in BIG EAST play, finishing in second place in the league standings.
The Hoyas got on the board midway through the first half, going ahead 1-0 in the 23rd minute on a penalty kick. Following the Hoyas' goal, the Musketeers had a 6-4 advantage on shots for the remainder of the first half. Xavier finished the half with a 5-4 advantage on shots on-goal but went into the break trailing, 1-0.
The Musketeers had the first five looks on-goal in the second half, but the Hoyas were able to score with their first shot on-frame in the period, taking a 2-0 lead in the 79th minute. Xavier's total shots (15) and shots on-goal (10) were a season-high for a Georgetown opponent, but the Musketeers were unable to find the back of the net, setting the final score at 2-0 in favor of the Hoyas.
Xavier will be the No. 2 seed at the 2024 BIG EAST Championship, earning a bye to the Semifinals at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Boyds, Md. The Musketeers will open BIG EAST Tournament play on Thursday, Nov. 7, with the opponent to be determined.
