Women's Basketball Suffers Setback at Seton Hall

The Pirates defeated Xavier, 85-62, at Walsh Gymnasium on Saturday
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Xavier women's basketball dropped an 86-62 BIG EAST matchup at Seton Hall on Saturday afternoon at Walsh Gymnasium.
The Musketeers moved to 1-20 (0-12 BIG EAST), while the Pirates improved to 14-10 (6-7 BIG EAST).
Seton Hall hit 61.5 percent (8-for-13) of its shot attempts in the opening quarter, building a 14-point lead (26-12). The Pirates led by double figures for the remainder of the game to pull away for their 10th home win of the season. Seton Hall led by as many as 29 points (73-44) with 8:07 left in regulation and finished with a season-high 86 points.
Seton Hall led 45-25 at the break. The Musketeers were only outscored by four points in the second half (41-37). Xavier hit 51.9 percent (14-for-27) of its shot attempts in the second half.
• Mackayla Scarlett scored 15 of her team-high 19 points in the second half. She was 6-for-17 from the floor and knocked down three 3-pointers. The guard added two rebounds, two assists and one steal. Scarlett has now scored in double figures 11 times this season, including six straight games with 17 or more points.
• Aizhanique Mayo added 16 points on 6-for-10 shooting. The guard made a game-high four 3-pointers in 27 minutes of action off the bench. She has now scored in double figures six times this season.
• Daniela López chipped in 10 points on 4-for-9 shooting. She added a game-high four steals to go along with four rebounds and one assist.
• Júlia Garcia Roig posted a team-high four assists. She added three points and one steal. Aanaya Harris added five points and a team-high five rebounds in 19 minutes off the bench.
• Xavier finished the game with a .418 field-goal percentage (23-for-55) and went 8-for-25 from behind the arc. The Musketeers were also 8-for-13 from the charity stripe.
• Seton Hall scored three more points off of turnovers (20-17) and held a 17-3 advantage in fastbreak points. The Pirates also scored 12 more bench points (38-26) and 12 more points in the pain (36-24).
• Xavier returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 14 vs No. 11 UConn. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. from Cintas Center.
