No. 15 UConn Upends Xavier on Wednesday Night

Aizhanique Mayo led the Musketeers with 14 points
CINCINNATIÂ - Xavier women's basketball dropped an 86-40 BIG EAST contest vs No. 15 UConn on Wednesday night at Cintas Center.
Xavier dropped to 1-21 (0-13 BIG EAST), while the Huskies improved to 21-5 (13-0 BIG EAST).
The Musketeers led 6-4 on a Mackayla Scarlett basket with 7:03 left in the first quarter. UConn responded by scoring 32 unanswered points to build a double-figure advantage it would never relinquish.
The Huskies led 50-13 at the break and led by as many as 59 points (83-24) with 6:22 left in regulation. The Musketeers outscored the Huskies, 22-15, in the final quarter to make the final ledger, 86-40.Â

• Aizhanique Mayo led the Musketeers with 14 points. She scored 12 points on 4-for-9 shooting in the second half with four 3-pointers. The guard added a team-high three steals to go along with two assists and one rebound. Mayo has now scored in double figures seven times this season.
• Daniela López rounded out the double-figure scorers with 10 points on 3-for-11 shooting. She added a team-high four rebounds and three assists. López has scored in double figures four times this season.
• Mackayla Scarlett added nine points on 4-for-13 shooting. The guard added three rebounds and one steal.
• Tae'lor Purvis finished with a game-high four rebounds, two assists and two points.Â
• Xavier was limited to a season-low 40 points and a season-low .246 field-goal percentage (14-for-57). The Musketeers were also 8-for-39 from behind the arc and 4-for-4 from the charity stripe.
• UConn held a 29-10 advantage in points off of turnovers and scored 18 more fastbreak points (22-4). The Huskies also scored 30 more points in the paint (32-2) and won the battle on the glass, 56-20. UConn held a 14-0 advantage in second-chance points and scored seven more bench points (21-14).

• Xavier returns to action on Sunday, Feb. 18 at Providence. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m. from Alumni Hall.
