PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Xavier women's basketball dropped a 66-42 BIG EAST road game at Providence on Sunday afternoon.
The Musketeers moved to 1-22 (0-14 BIG EAST) on the year, while the Friars improved to 12-15 (6-8 BIG EAST).
The first 12 minutes of the game had eight lead changes and three ties. Xavier led by one point (18-17) with 8:30 left in the first half before the Friars went on a 15-0 run, taking a 14-point advantage (32-18). The Friars led by double-figures for the remainder of the contest and led by as many as 31 points (61-30) with 5:53 left in regulation.
• Mackayla Scarlett led Xavier with 12 points and seven rebounds. The senior guard has now scored in double figures 12 times this season.
• Daniela López added 11 points, her third straight game with 10 or more points. The freshman guard now has five double-figure scoring games this season.
• Aizhanique Mayo finished with eight points, three assists, three steals and two rebounds. Tae'lor Purvis chipped in six points, three rebounds, two assists and a game-high four steals. Purvis has recorded four or more steals in a game four times this season.
• Xavier was limited to a .275 field-goal percentage (14-for-51) and was 9-for-27 from behind the arc. The Musketeers were also 5-for-9 from the foul line. Xavier has made nine or more three pointers in a game four times this season.
• Providence won the battle on the glass, 52-26, and scored one more point off of turnovers (18-17). The Friars also held a 12-5 advantage in fastbreak points and scored 15 more second-chance points (17-2).
• Xavier returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 21 at Butler. Tip-off is slated for 6:30 p.m. from Hinkle Fieldhouse with the game being aired nationally on FS2.
