
Musketeers Fall at Butler on Wednesday Night

INDIANAPOLIS - Xavier women's basketball dropped an 84-46 BIG EAST road game at Butler on Wednesday night at historic Hinkle Fieldhouse.
The Musketeers move to 1-23 (0-15 BIG EAST), while the Bulldogs improve to 13-13 (5-10 BIG EAST).
Xavier and Butler were tied 5-5 in the opening minutes before the Bulldogs closed the frame by outscoring the Musketeers, 13-8, to take a five-point lead (18-13). The Musketeers closed within one point, 20-19, at the 7:24 mark of the second quarter on an Aizhanique Mayo basket. Butler closed the stanza on an 11-5 run, taking a 31-24 advantage into the break.
Butler opened the second half by scoring eight unanswered points, taking its first double-figure lead of the game, 39-24, with 7:20 on the clock. The Bulldogs never relinquished their double-figure advantage and led by as many as 41 points in the closing minutes of the final quarter.
Butler hit 53.6 percent of its shot attempts with 15 three pointers to pull away for the team's fourth straight victory.
• Aanaya Harris scored a team-high 14 points on 6-for-12 shooting in 27 minutes off the bench. She added a team-high four rebounds. Harris now has 22 career double-figure scoring games.
• Mackayla Scarlett added 10 points, three rebounds and two steals. The senior guard has now scored in double figures 13 times this season and 38 times in her career.
• Daniela López finished with nine points, three rebounds and a team-high two 3-pointers. Aizhanique Mayo posted six points and Júlia Garcia Roig chipped in a team-high five assists and three steals.
• Xavier posted a .345 field-goal percentage (19-for-55) and went 5-for-17 from behind the arc. The Musketeers were also 3-for-6 from the foul line.
• Butler held a 22-8 advantage in points off of turnovers and won the battle on the glass, 39-21. Xavier held a 6-3 advantage in fastbreak points. Butler also scored two more second-chance points (7-5) and held a 34-20 advantage in bench points.
• Xavier returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 24 vs Marquette. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m. from Cintas Center.
• Xavier will be the No. 11 seed in the upcoming BIG EAST Tournament. The Musketeers will take on the No. 6 seed at 4 p.m. on Friday, March 8 from Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn.
