Mackayla Scarlett scored a team-high 15 points on Saturday afternoon

CINCINNATI - Xavier women's basketball dropped an 86-60 BIG EAST contest vs Marquette on Saturday afternoon at Cintas Center.

The Musketeers move to 1-24 (0-16 BIG EAST), while the Golden Eagles improve to 21-6 (10-6 BIG EAST).

The Golden Eagles never trailed in the game and led 18-10 after the first quarter. Marquette took a 38-21 advantage into the half and led by double-figures for the remainder of the game.

Xavier was only outscored by five points (44-39) in the second half. The Musketeers hit 60.9 percent (14-for-23) of their shot attempts in the second half.

NOTABLES

• Mackayla Scarlett scored a team-high 14 points on 5-for-11 shooting with a pair of three pointers. She added three assists and two steals. The senior guard has now scored in double figures 14 times this season and 39 times in her career.

• Tae'lor Purvis added 12 points on 5-for-10 shooting. She added a game-high three steals to go along with two rebounds and three assists. The senior guard has scored in double figures six times this season.

• Daniela López finished with 12 points, four rebounds, three assists, one block and one steal. Aizhanique Mayo added eight points, while Nila Blackford chipped in seven points and four rebounds.

• Xavier posted a .458 field-goal percentage (22-for-48) and went 4-for-14 from behind the arc. The Musketeers also went 12-for-16 from the foul line.

• Marquette won the battle on the glass, 39-21, and held a 16-0 advantage in second-chance points. Xavier scored one more point off of turnovers (14-13) than the Golden Eagles and had one less bench point (18-17).

• Marquette held a 28-6 advantage in fastbreak points and scored eight more points in the paint (34-26).

UP NEXT

• Xavier returns to action on Tuesday, Feb. 27 at No. 21 Creighton. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. ET from D.J. Sokol Arena.

• Xavier will be the No. 11 seed in the upcoming BIG EAST Tournament. The Musketeers will take on the No. 6 seed at 4 p.m. on Friday, March 8 from Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn.
