Xavier Takes Game Two at Louisiana Tech

Musketeers now travel to Baton Rouge for three game series with LSU
RUSTON, La. - Xavier baseball took a 6-4 win over LA Tech on Wednesday evening, the first loss for the Bulldogs this season, splitting the two-game series at Pat Patterson Park. Xavier moved to 7-6 on the season.
After two scoreless innings, Xavier took the 1-0 lead on a solo home run from Matt McCormick in the third. Connor Bailey held the Bulldogs without a hit for the first 4.0 innings in the start, helping the Musketeers take the one run lead to the sixth.Â
In the sixth, the Musketeers added another run after Isaac Wachsmann led off with a double, moved to third on a ground ball and came home on a passed ball to make it a 2-0 Xavier lead.
The Musketeers doubled the lead in the seventh, with walks for McCormick and Wachsmann putting two runners on for Jared Cushing. The second baseman hit a triple to drive in McCormick and Aedan Anderson, who pinch ran for Wachsmann, to make it a 4-0 Xavier lead.
In the eighth, back-to-back solo home runs from Joe Karpierz and Matthew DePrey made it a 6-2 Musketeer lead. The Bulldogs got on the board with a two-run homer in the bottom of the frame and added two more in the ninth, setting the final score at 6-4 in favor of the Musketeers.
Xavier now travels to Baton Rouge, La., to face defending national champions LSU. Game one of the three-game series with the Tigers is set for Friday, March 8 at 7:30 p.m. ET.

- Matt McCormick finished 2-of-4 with a walk, hitting his his fourth home run of the season, driving in an RBI an scoring two runs.

- Alex Vera pitched the eighth, allowing two runs on two hits before picking up three straight strikeouts to get out of the inning.
- Jonathan Kelly came in for the ninth, allowing two runs on three hits and picking up the save.
