Hoskins Matches Career-Long Outing as Musketeers Fall in Game One at LSU

Xavier pitching staff does not allow a run after the second inning in 4-0 setback
BATON ROUGE, La. - Right-handed pitcher Luke Hoskins matched his career-long outing and combined with Jake Lambdin out of the bullpen to hold No. 2 LSU off the board after the second inning, but Xavier fell, 4-0, in game one against the Tigers at Alex Box Stadium. The Musketeers moved to 7-7 on the season.
The Tigers scored two runs in each of the first two innings to take a 4-0 lead. Hoskins, who went 7.0 innings, and Lambdin, who made his first appearance on the mound for the eighth, combined to hold the Tigers without a run the rest of the way. The duo didn't allow a hit after the third inning, and faced the minimum after the fourth.
Xavier's offense picked up late in the game, getting two runners aboard in both the seventh and eighth innings, but the Musketeers were unable to drive a run across, marking the first time this season X has been shut out.
Game two of the three-game series with the Tigers is set for Saturday, March 9 at 6:00 p.m. ET

- Luke Hoskins' 7.0 inning outing matched his career-long against Vanderbilt in the 2023 NCAA Regionals. He finished with four earned runs allowed on seven hits with five strikeouts to two walks.
- Jake Lambdin made his first pitching appearance for the Musketeers in the eighth, getting a foul out, a line out and a fly ball to go 1-2-3 and finish with a scoreless inning of work.
