Baseball Takes 6-4 Win at Cincinnati to Secure Season Series Against the Bearcats

McCormick, Hendrickson homer in win for Musketeers; Xavier goes 2-1 against Bearcats this season
Cincinnati took the early lead on a two-run homer in the first, but the Musketeers manufactured a pair of runs in the next frame to tie it up. Jared Cushing led off the inning with a double, moved to third on the a ground ball from Matt McCormick and came home on a single from Matthew DePrey to drive in the first run for the Musketeers. Connor Misch was hit by a pitch to move DePrey into scoring position, coming home on a single from Jake Lambdin to make it 2-2 headed into the bottom of the second.
UC added two more runs in the third to lead 4-2, holding the advantage into the top of the fifth. Hayden Christiansen led off the inning with a walk to put a base runner on for Matt McCormick, who tied the game at 4-4 with a home run to right center.Â
The tie held into the eighth, when Connor Misch was hit by a pitch with one out in the top of the frame, and Carter Hendrickson snuck a ball inside the left field foul pole for his second home run of the season, putting the Musketeers in front 6-4.
UC brought the tying run to the plate in both the eighth and ninth inning but were unable to get another run acorss, setting the final score at 6-4.
Xavier continues BIG EAST play this weekend, traveling to South Orange, N.J., to play three with Seton Hall, running from Friday, April 19 through Sunday, April 21. Game one with the Pirates is set for a 4:00 p.m. start on FloSports.

- Connor Misch finished with walk and was hit by a pitch twice, scoring a run.
- Aedan Anderson recorded a hit and Luke Hammond got aboard with a walk.
- Connor Bailey made the start, going 3.0 innings, allowing four runs on six hits, finishing with one strikeouts and no walks issued.
- Nolan Hughes entered for the fourth, pitching 2.0 scoreless innings without allowing a hit, striking out four and walking three.
- Nick Boyle came in from the bullpen for the sixth inning, pitching 1.0 scoreless inning, allowing just one hit and walking a pair.
- Alex Vera entered to pitch the seventh, going 1.2 innings without allowing a run, giving up just one hit and one walk, striking out a pair. Vera picked up the win to move to 2-1 on the season.
- Jake Lambdin moved from shortstop to the mound with two outs and a runner on third in the eighth. He went the final 1.1 innings, not allowing a run, giving up one hit and one walk and striking out a pair, Lambdin picked up the save, his second of the season.
