Baseball Secures Series at Seton Hall with 6-5 Win in Game Two

Xavier scores five runs in the seventh to erase a four-run deficit
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J.  - Xavier baseball secured its second-straight BIG EAST series victory on Saturday, scoring five runs in the seventh inning of game two at Seton Hall to take the 6-5 win and move to 2-0 against the Pirates. The Musketeers moved to 20-18 overall with a 5-3 record in BIG EAST play with the win.
The Musketeers got on the board first with Jared Cushing leading off with a single, and coming home after walks from Connor Misch, Matthew DePrey and Jake Lambdin for the 1-0 lead. The Pirates answered with a run in the bottom of the inning, with the 1-1 tie holding into the sixth.
SHU scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 5-1 lead, but the Musketeers responded in the next frame with a five-run top of the seventh. DePrey led off inning with a single and Hendrickson walked, and both moved into scoring position on a balk with DePrey coming home on a single from Lambdin to cut it to a 5-2 SHU advantage.
After Lambdin's RBI single, Hendrickson was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Jared Cushing who hit a double down the left field, clearing the bases and tying the game at 5-5. Matt McCormick hit a single to right to bring Cushing in from second, putting Xavier in front 6-5.
The Pirates got the tying run aboard in each of their final three at-bats, loading the bases in the ninth inning, but were unable to get the tying run across to set the final score at 6-5.
The series finale with the Pirates is set for Sunday at 12:00 p.m. on FloSports.

- Jared Cushing went 2-of-4 with a walk, driving in three RBI with his seventh-inning double. He also scored a pair of runs.
- Jake Lambdin went 1-of-3 with a walk, driving in runs with a walk in the second inning and a single in the seventh.

- Nick Boyle entered for the for the final out of the sixth, walking one before picking up the out with a strikeout. He picked up the win to move to 4-4 on the season.
- Alex Vera entered for the seventh inning, pitching 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing four hits and finishing with a strikeout without issuing a walk.
- Nolan Hughes entered with two on and one out in the ninth, walking a batter.
- Jake Lambdin switch from shortstop to the mound for the final two outs of the ninth with the bases loaded, not allowing a run, a hit or a walk and striking out one on the way to the save, his third of the season.
