Series even at 1-1 after Musketeers fall 8-2; Rubber match set for Sunday morning

STORRS, Conn. - Xavier moved to 1-1 in the series with UConn after falling 8-2 in game two with the Huskies on Saturday afternoon. The Musketeers moved to 15-15 overall and is 1-1 in conference action.

UConn took a 3-0 lead after the first and added runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth to lead 7-0 into the eighth. In the top of the eighth, Luke Hammond hit a one-out double to put a runner on for Connor Misch, who homered to left field to cut the lead back to 7-2.

The Huskies added another run in the bottom of the eighth to set the final score a 8-2.

The rubber match with the Huskies is set for Sunday, April 7, with the series finale set for an 11:05 a.m. start.

AT THE PLATE

Connor Misch (1-4) finished with two RBI after hitting his third home run of the season in the eighth inning.
Luke Hammond went 1-of-4 with a walk, finishing with a run scored after getting on with a double ahead of Misch's home run.
Jared Cushing went 2-of-3 at the plate.
Grant Stephenson finished 1-of-4, hitting a double.
Matt McCormick, Hayden Christiansen and Aedan Anderson each got on with a walk.

ON THE MOUND

Logan Schmidt went 4.2 innings in the start, allowing six runs on 10 hits, striking out three without issuing a walk.
Tyler Sausville entered for the final out of the fifth, going 3.0 inning, allowing two runs on three hits, finishing with three strikeouts and one walk.
Eric Podgorny entered for the final out of the eighth, giving up one walk but not allowing a hit.
