Wachsmann, McCormick and Hammond homer for the Musketeers in 9-6 loss
MASON, Ohio - Xavier baseball rallied late to tie the game in the eighth inning, but fell to No. 3 seed Georgetown, 9-6, in the elimination bracket of the BIG EAST Tournament on Friday afternoon at Prasco Park. The Musketeers moved to 30-27 overall on the season.
Xavier took a 1-0 lead after the top of the first on a solo home run from Isaac Wachsmann, but the Hoyas tied it up in the bottom of the frame, with the 1-1 tie holding into the fourth.
In the top of the fourth, Carter Hendrickson singled, Luke Hammond was hit by a pitch and Matthew DePrey walked to load the bases with two outs. Grant Stephenson and Aedan Anderson each took a walk to put the Musketeers in front 3-1 headed to the bottom of the inning.
Xavier maintained the two-run lead into the sixth where the Hoyas scored a pair to tie it at 3-3. Georgetown added three runs in the seventh to take a 6-3 lead into the eighth.
Jared Cushing led off the eighth inning with a single, and Matt McCormick brought him in with a home run to left to cut the Hoya lead to one, 6-5. Luke Hammond followed that with a solo home run to tie the game at 6-6.
Georgetown scored three in the bottom of the eighth inning, setting the final score at 9-6.

- Isaac Wachsmann went 2-of-4 with a walk, finishing with an RBI and a run scored after hitting his 10th home run of the season, a solo shot in the first inning.
- Matt McCormick finished with with a pair of RBI and a run scored after hitting a two-run homer in the eighth, his 16th of the season, to pull the Musketeers within one.
- Luke Hammond went 2-of-3 at the plate, finishing with two runs scored and drove in an RBI on a solo home run to tie the game in the eighth, his 11th of the season.
- Aedan Anderson finished with a hit and a walk, driving in an RBI on a bases-loaded walk in the the fourth.
- Grant Stephenson also drove in an RBI with a walk in the fourth inning.
- Jared Cushing and Carter Hendrickson each finished with a hit and a run scored.

- Alex Vera made the start, marking his Xavier single-season school record 33rd appearance of the season. He went 5.1 innings, allowing three runs on four hits, finishing with a season-high matching four strikeouts.
- Jake Lambdin entered with one out in the sixth, facing three batters. He finished with a walk and strikeout in 0.1 inning of work.
- Nolan Hughes entered for the final out of the sixth allowing two runs on two hits and a walk in 0.2 innings of work.
- Nick Boyle came in with one on and one out in the seventh, allowing two runs on a hit, striking out one and walking a pair.
