Xavier takes a 2-0 lead in the weekend series at Butler
INDIANAPOLIS - Xavier baseball defeated Butler, 7-3, on Saturday afternoon in game two of the weekend series. The Musketeers have won 10 straight vs the Bulldogs and 13 of the last 14 meetings.
Xavier moved to 24-22 (8-6 BIG EAST), while Butler dropped to 17-28 (3-11 BIG EAST).
Hayden Christiansen gave the Musketeers an early 1-0 lead in the second inning with a solo home run to left field, his seventh home run of the season. Xavier extended its lead to four runs (4-0) in the sixth inning, scoring three runs on four hits.
The Musketeers added one run in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings to pull away for the 7-3 victory.
Xavier had five more hits (12-7) than Butler and left four more runners on base (9-5). Both teams committed one error.
Game three of the weekend series at Butler is set for Sunday, May 5Â at 1 p.m.

AT THE PLATE
- Jared Cushing went 2-for-5 with two runs. The infielder is 4-for-10 with three RBI and three runs in the series. Cushing extended his hitting streak to 13Â games, while increasing his mult-hit games to 15.
- Carter Hendrickson and Grant Stephenson both went 2-for-4 with a run and a RBI. Stephenson also had a triple in the game.
- Connor Misch went 1-for-4 with a run and RBI. Luke Hammond went 1-for-4 with a RBI.
- Matt McCormick, Tyler Stack and Matthew DePrey both added a hit.
- The Musketeers had 12 hits in the game. Xavier has now recorded 10 or more hits in a game 21 times this season.
ON THE MOUND
- Logan Schmidt (5-3) made his 10th start of the year, going a season-long 7.2 innings. The RHP threw five strikeouts, his second game of the year with five or more strikeouts. Schmidt allowed six hits and three runs.
- Nolan Hughes pitched 1.1 innings of scoreless relief. The LHP threw four strikeouts and only surrendered one hit.
- Xavier only allowed one walk in the contest (2nd time this season only allowing one walk; did not walk any batters at Lipscomb on Feb. 23).
- Xavier had nine strikeouts in the game, the team's 21st game of the season with nine or more strikeouts.
