2024 Musketeers finish with 19 wins, earn program's fifth BIG EAST title and bid to NCAA tournament

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Xavier women's tennis battled back from a 3-1 deficit to tie the match at 3-3, but fell 4-3 to No. 30 Notre Dame in the NCAA Championships First Round at the Varsity Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Michigan.

The Musketeers wrapped up the 2024 season at 19-6, the most wins since the 2018-19 season. Xavier took home the program's fifth BIG EAST Championship and made its fifth appearance in the NCAA Championship. Xavier also featured the program's third Player of the Year, two-time winner Imani Graham.

The Match

In doubles play, Sofia Mazzucato and Emily Flowers combined for a 6-1 win on the No. 3 court to take the first decision, the pair's 14th doubles win of the season. Notre Dame took a 6-2 decision on the No. 2 court against Ellie Brotherton and Abby Nugent, but the Musketeers clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win on the No. 1 court for Imani Graham and Anna Roggenburk, the duo's 16th win of the season.

Notre Dame tied the match with a 6-1, 6-1 win against Abigail Siminski on the No. 4 court and then moved in front, 2-1, with a 6-3, 6-4 win against Anna Roggenburk on No. 2.

The Fighting Irish stretched the lead out to as many as 3-1 after taking the No. 3 court, 7-5, 7-6 (4), against Abby Nugent.

After falling in the first set, Emily Flowers came back on the No. 6 court to take a 4-6, 7-5, 6-1 win, her 16th of the season, to cut Notre Dame's lead to one, 3-2.

Sofia Mazzucato picked up the win on the No. 5 court in a third set 6-2, 3-6, 7-5, to pull the Musketeers even at 3-3, her 16th win of her freshman season.

Imani Graham battled through tie breakers to take the first set but fell in three 6-7 (8), 6-2, 7-5 on No. 1 to set the final score at 4-3 in favor of Notre Dame.
