Women's Soccer Opens Season with 4-2 Win Over Milwaukee

CINCINNATIÂ - Â Xavier women's soccer opened up Dean Ward's tenure as head coach with a 4-2 win over Milwaukee at Corcoran Field on Thursday evening.
Xavier took the lead early, with Regan Dancer scoring from Elin Hansson and Samantha Wiehe to lead 1-0 in the first 10 minutes. Samantha Wiehe connected on a penalty kick in the 15th minute, remaining perfect on PKs for her Xavier career, to make it a 2-0 Xavier advantage.
Milwaukee responded less than five minutes later to cut the lead back to 2-1, but Olivia Lawson scored her second goal as a Musketeer in the final minutes of the first half to send Xavier to the break with a 3-1 lead.
Midway through the second half, Olivia Baca's first collegiate goal, assisted by Peyton Kohls, extended the Musketeer lead to three, 4-1, which held into the final 10 minutes of the game. The Panthers found the back of the net in the 84th minute to set the final score at 4-2 in favor of the Musketeers.
The Musketeers return to Corcoran Field on Sunday, August 18, to host Michigan, set for a 5:00 p.m. start.
