ATHENS, Ohio - The Xavier volleyball team dropped its first match of the season to App State on Friday afternoon at the Bobcat Invitational, 3-2 (26-24, 19-25, 25-21, 17-25, 11-15). The Musketeers battled to win sets one and three, but the Mountaineers took advantage of a 5-0 scoring run in set five to secure the win.

Xavier starts the season at 0-1 (0-0 BIG EAST) while App State moves to 1-0 (0-0 Sun Belt).

Notables

Emma Grace recorded her 11th career double-double with an even 13 kills and digs.
Redshirt senior Sarah Stevens recorded a new career-high six blocks to lead the team's defensive effort. She also tallied nine kills and zero errors for a .529 hitting percentage.
Margo Kemp came out strong in her collegiate debut, notching eight kills on her first 10 swings, ending with nine on the match and five blocks of her own.
Freshman Charlotte Moriarty made her first appearance in set three where she accumulated six kills to help pace the Musketeers to a 2-1 lead. She proved herself in the back court as well, ending the match with eight kills and 10 digs.
The front row recorded 16 block assists, the most since last October against St. John's.
Logan Flaugh dished out a career-high 47 assists along with 11 digs to record her fourth career double-double.
Anna Taylor helped lead the Musketeers' offense with 13 kills on a .357 hitting percentage.
Senior libero Lucia Corsaro led the back court with 17 digs on only one reception error.
