Xavier Sweeps Kent State for First Home Win

The Musketeers combined for a season-high .375 clip.
CINCINNATI - The Xavier volleyball team defeated Kent State 3-0 (25-22, 29-27, 25-17) on Friday night in the Musketeers' first win at home and the first sweep of the season.Â
After a back-and-forth first set, Xavier took advantage of a late 3-0 run to take a 23-20 lead. The Musketeers hit .341 in the set led by Anna Taylor's five kills.
Kent State started set two dominantly with two separate 4-0 runs to take an early 9-2 lead. The Musketeers fought back with a 5-0 run of their own to cut the deficit to 13-12. The Golden Flashes pulled away again, but Xavier tied it up at 19-19. The end of the set went back-and-forth while the Musketeers fought off two set points before Taylor's back-to-back kills gave Xavier set point and the Musketeers delivered.
Xavier rolled through the final set with Emma Grace putting down a dominant kill for the first point, and the Musketeers never looked back.
The Musketeers improve to 2-6 (0-0 BIG EAST) while the Golden Flashes fall to 1-6 (0-0 MAC).

The Musketeers head across the river for the NKU Invitational next weekend. Xavier will play Northern Kentucky on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. and Miami (OH) on Friday at 6:00 p.m.

- Anna Taylor recorded a new career-high 20 kills on a .545 clip.
- Logan Flaugh dished out 49 assists, one shy of her career-high, while averaging 10.26 assists per set.
- Margo Kemp tallied 13 kills with only one error for a .667 hitting percentage. She also recorded three aces at the service line.
- Freshman Kelsey Niesen earned her first start in the libero jersey and recorded a career-high 19 digs.
- Emma Grace followed up defensively with 13 digs.
- The Musketeer offense had a season-low 11 errors in the win.
