LINEUP BREAKDOWN
- Carson Bellish: A consistent ball striker with a calm demeanor on the course, Bellish has shown flashes of brilliance in recent outings. His accuracy off the tee will be crucial on Firethorn's narrow fairways.
- Kellen Dean:Â Dean's short game is his strength, and it could be key on Firethorn's subtly contoured greens. He'll look to capitalize on scoring opportunities with his precise putting.
- A.J. Wilhelm: Known for his power, Wilhelm will try to gain an advantage on the longer par 4s and par 5s. If he can keep his driver in play, Wilhelm could post low scores.
- Zach Burton: A steady performer with experience under pressure, Burton's mental toughness will be invaluable in a crowded field.
- Mason Witt: Witt's all-around game makes him a valuable asset to the team. His ability to adjust to different conditions could make him a sleeper in the individual standings.
TOURNAMENT OUTLOOK
- Xavier will face stiff competition from host Nebraska and other strong teams like Minnesota, Wichita State, and Sam Houston State. Nebraska, boasting a deep roster and familiarity with the course, will likely be among the favorites. However, the Musketeers have the depth to challenge for a top finish if they can navigate Firethorn's unique demands.
THE VENUE
- Firethorn Golf Club has proven to be a stern test since hosting the first Git-R-Done Invitational in 2019. The 2024 edition will maintain the tradition of difficulty, with players needing to balance aggression with caution. Water hazards, fescue-lined roughs, and fast greens require both technical skill and patience. A key for Xavier will be managing risk and capitalizing on opportunities when they arise.
SCHEDULE
- Sunday, Sept. 22: Practice rounds begin at noon.
- Monday, Sept. 23: First round starts at 8 a.m. (CT), with tee times off No. 1 and No. 10 for 36 holes.
- Tuesday, Sept. 24: Final round begins with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
With a young but determined squad, Xavier looks to continue to gain momentum after a strong opening event last week. The 5-count-4 format means every shot will count, and the Musketeers will need contributions from the entire lineup to leave Lincoln with a strong finish.
