Musketeers take on IU on Saturday at 7 PM ET
SURPRISE, Ariz. - Xavier baseball held the lead late but fell, 8-3, to No. 7 Oregon State in the 2025 season opener at the Sanderson Ford College Baseball Classic.
Oregon State took a one run lead in the first inning and held the advantage into the fifth inning when Carter Hendrickson and Aedan Anderson took back-to-back walks to lead off the frame. The pair used a double steal to move into scoring position, then Hendrickson scored on a sac fly from Connor Misch to tie the game at 1-1. Anderson came home on a wild pitch to give Xavier the 2-1 lead.
A solo home run from Isaac Wachsmann in the seventh, Xavier's first hit of the game, gave the Musketeers the 3-1 advantage. Jake Hooker and Ben Weber combined to retire 15 straight batters, posting three-up, three-down innings in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth, to keep the Beavers at one run going into the seventh.
The Beavers got a runner aboard with a one-out walk in the seventh to start the rally, eventually driving in four runs in the inning to retake the lead. OSU added three more in the eighth and held the Musketeers off the board the rest of the way to set the final score at 8-3.
The Musketeers return to the field at Surprise Stadium on Saturday, Feb. 15, at 7:00 p.m. ET to face No. 25 Indiana.
