Musketeers face UNLV on Sunday evening at 7 PM ET
SURPRISE, Ariz. - Xavier baseball picked up its first win of the season, taking an 8-6 win over No. 25 Indiana in 10 innings in the Sanderson Ford College Baseball Classic on Saturday evening. The Musketeers moved to 1-1 on the season with the win.
Ryan Piech made the start on the mound, collecting four strikeouts in the first two innings to send the game to the bottom of the third scoreless. In that frame, the Hoosiers used four walks to get a run across, holding the 1-0 lead into the fifth, when IU added another run, leading 2-0 going into the sixth.
Xavier posted a four-run inning in the sixth, started when Jake Lambdin got aboard and advanced to second on an error to lead off. Aedan Anderson hit a ground-rule double to the left corner to bring Lambdin in to cut IU's lead to 2-1. Walks for Isaac Wachsmann and Connor Misch loaded the bases, and Anderson and Wachsmann came home on a wild pitch to put the Musketeers in front. Landon Mensik hit an RBI single through the left side to bring Misch home, wrapping up the inning with the Musketeers in front 4-2.
A solo home run for the Hoosiers cut Xavier's lead to on 4-3, in the seventh. The Musketeers got the run back in the next frame after Clay Burdette hit a two-out single and moved to second after Donovan Canterberry was hit by a pitch. Eddie Peters doubled to the left side to bring in Burdette and extend Xavier's lead back out to two, 5-3. Xavier added another run to the lead in the ninth inning, with Carter Hendrickson getting on after being hit by a pitch, and then scoring on a throwing error after Aedan Anderson put the ball into play, giving Xavier the 6-3 advantage going into the bottom of the ninth.
In the ninth, a three-run home run for Indiana tied the game up at 6-6, with one out, Trevor Geddes came in from the bullpen and picked up the final two outs to send the game to extras.
Eddie Peters hit a two-out single in the 10th frame, and moved into scoring position an error. Hayden Christiansen, pinch hitting, singled to center field to bring Peters in and put the Musketeers back in front 7-6. Christansen moved to third on a single from Jake Lambdin and came home on a single from Carter Hendrickson to make it an 8-6 Xavier lead headed to the bottom of the inning. Geddes kept the Hoosiers off the board in the bottom of the 10th to seal the win for the Musketeers.
Xavier returns to the field at Surprise Stadium on Sunday, Feb. 16, at 7:00 p.m. ET to face UNLV.

AT THE PLATE
- Eddie Peters went 2-of-5 with a double, recording his first collegiate hit and recording his first RBI. Peters also came around to score a run.
- Jake Lambdin (2-4) recorded a pair of hits and came around to score a run.
- Carter Hendrickson (1-5) drove in an RBI and scored a run.
- Aedan Anderson (1-6, 1 BB) drove in an RBI with a double, coming around to score a run.

ON THE MOUND
- Ryan Piech went 3.0 innings in his first collegiate start, allowing just one run on one hit, striking out four and walking six.
- Logan Schmidt entered for the fourth inning, pitching 3.0 innings with only one run allowed on one hit, finishing with two strikeouts and two walks.
- Ashton Chronister came in from the bullpen for the seventh inning, facing one batter and getting a ground out.
- Luke Hoskins entered with one out in the seventh, going 2.0 innings, allowing three runs on four hits and finishing with one K to one walk.
- Jake Lambdin switched from third base to the mound with one out and two on in the ninth. He faced two batters, giving up on hit and walking one.
- Trevor Geddes entered with one out and one on in the ninth with the game tied, picking up the final two outs to send the game to the 10th inning. He went the final 1.2 innings, not allowing a run, giving up one hit and finishing with on strikeout and one walk. He earned the win to move to 1-0 on the season.
