02.16.25 | Baseball
Xavier takes on No. 7 Oregon State on Monday
Xavier took the early lead on a three-run frame in the bottom of the second. Eddie Peters got the first of three hits in the inning, and Jake Lambdin brought him home with an RBI single to put the first run on the board. With Lambdin on, Carter Hendrickson used his first home run of the season to clear the bases, driving in a pair of runs to cap the inning.
Joseph Chavana made the start on the mound and didn't allow a run in his first 2.0 innings of work. The Rebels broke through for their lone run in the third to cut the Xavier lead to 3-1.
In the next half inning, a single from Connor Misch followed by Landon Mensik's first collegiate home run, a two-run shot to left center, extended the Musketeers lead out to four, 5-1. A walk and a stolen base from Jake Lambdin, followed by an RBI single from Hendrickson to bring him home made it 6-1 Musketeers.
Ashton Chronister, who entered in the fourth and went a career long 2.1 innings, freshman Jack Nobe and Eli Bridenthal combined to hold the Rebels off the board the rest of the way, with only one UNLV hit allowed in the final five innings.
Xavier capped the scoring with a four-run sixth inning. A one-out walk from Lambdin put a runner on for Hendrickson, who drove him in for his career-best fourth RBI of the day. Hendrickson then scored on a double from Aedan Anderson to make it an 8-1 Xavier advantage. Isaac Wachsmann got aboard with a walk, and a Clay Burdette single brought Anderson home. Wachsmann added the final run after scoring on a wild pitch, setting the final score at 10-1.
Xavier wraps up its trip to the Sanderson Ford College Baseball Classic with a second match-up against No. 7 Oregon State, taking on the Beavers on Monday, Feb. 17, set for a 4:00 p.m. ET start at Surprise Stadium.
