Women's Tennis Falls at Notre Dame

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - A pair of Xavier freshmen picked up singles wins as the Musketeers fell, 5-2, at Notre Dame on Sunday.
Next week, Xavier will return to Eastern Hills to host Cleveland State on Saturday, February 22, set for a 5:00 p.m. start.Â

In doubles play, the No. 22 ranked duo of Abby Nugent and Clara Owen won on the No. 1 court, 6-4, while Madeleine Rexroat and Natalie Smitek fell 6-3 on the No. 3 court. Notre Dame picked up a 7-5 win on the No. 2 court against Emily Flowers and Elizabeth Pendergast to take the doubles point.
In singles, Xavier picked up a pair of two-set wins. Madeleine Rexroat won on the No. 3 court, 7-5, 7-5, and Clara Owen picked up a win on No. 6, 6-4, 6-0, to collect a pair of points for the Musketeers.Â
Notre Dame took the No. 5 court in two sets, picking up a 6-2, 6-1 win on the No. 5 court against Abigail Siminski.Â
On the No. 2 court, Abby Nugent took the second set to force a third set, but fell, 6-1, 2-6, 6-3. Elizabeth Pendergast also won the second set on court No. 1, but fell 7-6, 3-6, 6-3.
Emily Flowers picked up a win in the second set as well, but fell 7-6, 5-7, 6-2 on the No. 4 court to set the final score at 5-2 in favor of Notre Dame.
