Hunter battled back from multiple challenges that kept him inactive for the 2023-24 season.
CINCINNATI --- Xavier University graduate student Jerome Hunter has been selected as the 2024-25 BIG EAST Sportsmanship Award winner. Hunter has made an impact with his sportsmanlike play and leadership on and off the court.
Hunter has overcome a long list of challenges during his collegiate career, which included two seasons at Indiana before transferring to Xavier before the 2020-21 season. Hunter battled injury issues at Indiana but his return from challenges that made his miss the entire 2023-24 season is nothing short of remarkable. Hunter suffered a heart attack in the preseason and, after a long road back to being cleared for full practice, in early 2024 he tore his Achilles tendon and was shut down for the rest of the season. Throughout his rehabilitation process, Hunter's positive attitude and presence around the team showed his true character.
Hunter has played in 103 games in his Xavier career, including all 31 games this season. He is coming off a 12-point game in the win over Providence on Saturday.
