Musketeers open home schedule on Friday, March 21 with Ball State

NEW ORLEANS - Xavier baseball fell, 5-4, in the series finale at Tulane on Sunday afternoon at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium. The Musketeers moved to 8-13 on the season, while the Green Wave moved to 15-5, with Tulane taking the 2-1 series win.

Xavier took a 1-0 lead in the first after Jake Lambdin got on with a walk, the first of four for the Musketeers in the frame, eventually scoring on a single from Nolan Tucker.

The lead held into the bottom of the fourth when the Green Wave scored a pair to take the lead. The 2-1 advantage held into the top of the sixth, when Xavier led off the inning with singles from Clay Burdette and Tucker, with Burdette scoring on an RBI single from Isaac Wachsmann to tie it. Tucker scored on a groundball from Hayden Christiansen to put the Musketeers back in front, 3-2.

Tulane added two in the bottom of the frame to retake the lead, but the Musketeers answered to tie it up a 4-4 in the seventh after Carter Hendrickson reached on a fielding error, moved to third on a double from Connor Misch and came home after Jason Jelic put the ball in play. The Green Wave responded again, picking up a run in the bottom of the seventh to retake the lead, setting the final score at 5-4

Xavier returns to Cincinnati to open up the home schedule next weekend, hosting Ball State for a three-game series at Hayden Field, set to get underway on Friday, March 21.

AT THE PLATE

Nolan Tucker finished 2-3 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored.
Isaac Wachsmann (1-4) drove in an RBI with a single in the sixth.
Luke Hammond went 2-3 at the plate in the finale, with the third baseman going 6-of-7 with a walk through the last two games.
Connor Misch (2-4) hit a pair of doubles.
Jason Jelic finished with a walk and an RBI.
Hayden Christiansen also finished with an RBI
Jake Lambdin and Clay Burdette both finished with a hit (1-4), a walk, and a run scored.
Carter Hendrickson extended his reached base streak to 10 games, getting on with a walk and scoring a run.

Ben Weber went a season-long 6.0 innings in the start, not allowing an earned run. He allowed six hits and struck out a pair with no walks for the day.
Jake Hooker entered for the seventh, allowing one run on one hit and one walk, striking out one in 0.2 inning of work.
Trevor Geddes faced one batter in the seventh, issuing a walk.
Logan Schmidt entered with runners on the corners and two outs in the seventh, getting out of the inning with a flyball. He went the final 1.1 innings, not allowing a run and giving up just one hit.
