Ryan Piech Throws Season-High Seven Strikeouts in Loss at No. 12 Vanderbilt

NASHVILLE - Xavier baseball dropped game two of the weekend series at No. 12 Vanderbilt, 6-1, on Saturday at Charles Hawkins Field.
The Musketeers moved to 7-8 on the year, while Vanderbilt improved to 12-3.
Jonathan Vastine hit a two-run homer to right field in the third inning to give the Commodores an early 2-0 lead. The Musketeers made it a one-run game in the top of the next inning when Clay Burdette crossed home plate on a one-out, bases loaded walk. Vanderbilt scored four runs on three hits and one error in the eighth inning to make it a five-run game.
Vanderbilt had three more hits (6-3) than Xavier and left one more runner on base (7-6). The Musketeers committed two errors in the game, while the Commodores did not have any miscues.
The Musketeers and the Commodores conclude the series on Sunday, with game three set for a 2:00 p.m. ET first pitch.
