CINCINNATI --- Xavier University men's basketball head coach Richard Pitino announced today that he has received a signed athletic aid agreement from 6-3 guard All Wright, who earned the Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Year Award at Valparaiso while also being named to the MVC All-Freshman Team and MVC All-Tournament Team.
"I am very excited about the addition of All Wright to our basketball program," said Pitino. "He was Missouri Valley freshman of the year and had a phenomenal first season in college basketball. He can score the ball in a variety of ways, he's fearless, and a tireless worker. We expect him to make an immediate impact."
Wright played in all 34 games this past season for Valparaiso, starting 31 times, and averaged 15.5 points and 2.4 assists in 29.5 minutes per game while shooting 38.3 percent (67-175) from 3-point range. Wright ranked seventh in the MVC in scoring at 15.5 ppg. and sixth in free throw percentage at 80.5 percent (95-118).
Wright recorded 13 games with 20 points or more, including 10 in the final 13 games. Eight of those 20-point games came away from home, including a career-high 32 points at Indiana State on Feb. 5. He averaged 25.0 points per game at the MVC Tournament while knocking down 15 3-pointers, one shy of tying the tournament record and the second most in the history of the event. He scored 29 points, including season highs in made field goals (11) and made 3-pointers (six) in the March 7 MVC quarterfinal win over UNI.
Wright was born in Durango, Mexico before moving to Carthage, Mo., at age two. His brother Always Wright is a member of the University of Rhode Island men's basketball program and his father Joe played at Kansas State University from 1984-86.
