Noel Posts Double-Double in Road Loss at St. John's

QUEENS, N.Y. - Mariyah Noel recorded a game-high 20 points and 11 rebounds in Wednesday's 71-52 setback at St. John's at Carnesecca Arena.
The Musketeers moved to 11-12 (4-10 BIG EAST), while the Red Storm improved to 18-7 (8-6 BIG EAST).
Xavier continues its BIG EAST road swing at Providence on Sunday, Feb. 8. Tip-off is slated for 1 p.m. from Alumni Hall with the game being aired on ESPN+.
The Musketeers moved to 11-12 (4-10 BIG EAST), while the Red Storm improved to 18-7 (8-6 BIG EAST).

NOTABLES
- Xavier never trailed in the first half and led by as many as 10 points (26-16) with 5:45 left in the second quarter. St. John's closed the stanza on a 13-4 run to close within one point (30-29).
- The Musketeers hit 52.2 percent (12-for-23) of their shot attempts in the first half. Mariyah Noel had 13 points and seven rebounds at the break.
- St. John's responded by outscoring Xavier, 16-6, in the third quarter on 6-for-12 shooting - taking a nine-point advantage into the final frame (45-36). The Red Storm never relinquished the lead and led by as many as 21 points (71-50) with 31 seconds in regulation. A Meri Kanerva basket in the closing seconds made the final score, 71-52.
- Mariyah Noel posted her third career double-double, posting a game-high 20 points and 11 rebounds. She now has eight career 20-point performances and four career double-figure rebounding games. The guard was 9-for-20 from the floor and had two assists in 38 minutes of action.
- Savannah White finished with 11 points on 5-for-6 shooting. The forward added five rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals.
- Meri Kanerva had nine points, four rebounds and two assists in 40 minutes of action. MacKenzie Givens finished with five points, two steals and one assist.
- Vivien Nejašmić had four rebounds and three points. Audia Young posted four points.
- St. John's won the battle on the glass, 35-32, and held a 14-6 advantage in fastbreak points. Both teams scored 26 points in the paint and scored six, second-chance points.
- St. John's held an 18-2 advantage in points off of turnovers and scored five more bench points (12-7).
- Xavier posted a .396 field-goal percentage (21-for-53) and went 4-for-15 from behind the arc. The Musketeers were also 6-for-8 from the foul line.
- St. John's posted a .414 field-goal percentage (24-for-58) and went 9-for-23 from behind the arc. The Red Storm were also 14-for-17 from the charity stripe.
- Five Red Storm players reached double figures, paced by Brooke Moore and Beautiful Waheed who each had 14 points. Daniela Abies pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.
