Meri Kanerva led Xavier with 15 points on 5-for-10 shooting
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Xavier dropped a 66-50 BIG EAST road game at Providence on Sunday afternoon at Alumni Hall.
The Musketeers moved to 11-13 (4-11 BIG EAST), while the Friars improved to 11-14 (4-10 BIG EAST).
Xavier returns to Cintas Center on Wednesday, Feb. 11 vs Villanova. Tip-off is slated for 6:30 p.m. with the game being aired on ESPN+ and The Varsity Network.

NOTABLES
- Xavier had its only lead, 11-9, with 1:26 left in the first quarter. The Friars scored eight unanswered points to end the frame and take a six-point advantage.
- The Musketeers battled back to close within two points (35-33) on a Mariyah Noel three pointer with 5:19 left in the third quarter.
- The Friars never relinquished their lead and outscored Xavier, 37-28, in the second half to pull away for the win and snap a four-game losing streak.
- Meri Kanerva scored a team-high 15 points on 5-for-10 shooting. She added three rebounds, three assists and one steal. The guard went 4-for-5 from behind the arc (matched her career high in made three pointers). The sophomore now has a team-leading 29 career double-figure scoring games.
- Mariyah Noel finished with nine points, six rebounds, two steals and one assist. Savannah White chipped in a team-high seven rebounds to go along with six points.
- Vivien Nejašmić had eight points and four rebounds in 36 minutes of action. The sophomore guard made her first career start on Sunday.
- Petra Oborilova added eight points on 3-for-4 shooting. She added two rebounds.
- Xavier posted a .380 field-goal percentage (19-for-50) and went 7-for-16 from behind the arc. The Musketeers were also 5-for-10 from the foul line.
- Providence hit 42.9 percent (24-for-56) of its shot attempts and went 5-for-17 from behind the arc. The Friars were also 13-for-19 from the charity stripe.
- Providence won the battle on the glass, 42-28, and scored two more points off of turnovers (20-18). The Friars also held a 36-16 advantage in points in the paint and scored 14 more fastbreak points (16-2). The Friars held a 13-4 advantage in bench points.
- Xavier held a 9-8 advantage in second-chance points.
-  Sabou Gueye posted a game and career-high 29 points for the Friars. She also pulled down a game-high nine rebounds.
