Musketeers Drop Series Finale vs Ducks

Josh Stonehouse hit his team-leading seventh home run on Wednesday night
Xavier moved to 5-13 on the year, while the Ducks improved to 14-3.
The Ducks took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a Naulivou Lauaki RBI single. Xavier responded in the top of the next inning with a two-out, RBI single from Josh Stonehouse.
Oregon broke open the scoreless game in the seventh inning, scoring five runs on four hits (all with two outs in the inning) to take a 6-1 lead.
Xavier responded with a Josh Stonehouse two-run homer in the eighth inning to close within three runs. The Musketeers recorded back-to-back hits from Donavan Canterberry and Jorge Valdes following the home run to keep the rally alive, but Jason Jelic struck out swinging to end the game.
Xavier had one more hit (9-8) than Oregon and left two more runners on base (7-5). The Musketeers committed the lone error of the game.
Xavier opens an eight-game homestand vs Evansville on Friday, March 13. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. from Hayden Field with the game being aired on ESPN+.

- JD Crisp went 2-for-4 with a double and a stolen base. Jorge Valdes went 2-for-2 with a double and a run.
- Eddie Peters added a double, while Tanner Thomas and Donavan Canterberry both added a single.
- The Oregon pitching staff threw 16Â strikeouts, the third most strikeouts in a game this season.
- Evan Vasiliou made his first start of the season, throwing a season-high 5.0 innings. The LHP threw a season-high three strikeouts. He allowed four hits and one run, while issuing one walk.
- Owen Poole (0-2) allowed two hits and four runs in 1.2 innings of relief. The RHP also walked one batter.
- Garrett Helsel recorded one strikeout in 1.1 innings of relief. The LHP surrendered two hits and one run.
