Men's Basketball Prepares For No. 2 Seed UConn In The BIG EAST Tournament Quarterfinals

NEW YORK --- The No. 10 seed Xavier University Musketeers, 15-17, take on the No. 2 seed University of Connecticut Huskies, 27-4, in a BIG EAST Tournament Quarterfinal on Thursday night at 7 p.m. at Madison Square Garden. Xavier defeated Marquette 89-87 in the first round. UConn, which is ranked No. 6 in the latest Associated Press Poll, had a first round bye.

Xavier holds a 7-2 all-time record in BIG EAST Tournament quarterfinal action. UConn and Xavier have met only once in the tournament with the eventual champion Huskies defeating the Musketeers in a 2024 quarterfinal.

• Xavier is 12-12 all-time in BIG EAST Tournament play, including 7-2 in quarterfinal action.
• Xavier, 15-17 overall and the No. 10 seed, is coming off an 89-87 win over No. 7 seed Marquette on Wednesday. Sophomore Jovan Milićević led XU with 21 points, while graduate student Tre Carroll had 18 points, including 14 in the second half, to go with nine rebounds.
• Xavier leads the BIG EAST and is 11th in the nation in assist-to-turnover ratio at 1.78. XU is second in the BIG EAST and 16th in the nation in assists at 17.8 apg.
• Xavier has connected on a school record 300 3-pointers this season.
• Xavier graduate student Tre Carroll was named to the All-BIG EAST Conference First Team by the league coaches. Carroll is the fifth Musketeer to be named to the BIG EAST First Team since XU joined the league for the 2013-14 season, joining Souley Boum (2023), current Dallas Maverick Naji Marshall (2020), Trevon Bluiett (2016, 2017 and 2018) and Semaj Christon (2014).
• Xavier's Tre Carroll is second in the BIG EAST in scoring at 18.0 ppg. for all games. Carroll has recorded a team-high 27 double-figure scoring games and a team-high 14 games with 20 points or more.
• Xavier sophomore Jovan Milićević has scored in double figures in 14 of the last 16 games, including 21 points in each of the last two. He has averaged 14.9 ppg. over the last 16 games.
• Xavier senior Filip Borovićanin leads the team in rebounding (sixth in the BIG EAST at 7.5 rpg.) and assists (fifth in the BIG EAST at 4.3 apg.) and is second in assist-to-turnover ratio (fifth in the BIG EAST at 2.46). He is third in the BIG EAST with nine double-doubles.
• Xavier senior Malik Messina-Moore was second on the team in scoring for BIG EAST games at 13.1 ppg., which ranked 17th in the league. He scored in double figures in 16 BIG EAST
regular season games and scored 18 in his first career BIG EAST Tournament game yesterday.
• Xavier graduate student Roddie Anderson III, Xavier's fourth-leading scorer at 10.8 ppg., was named BIG EAST Sixth Man of the Year by HoopsHD (hoopshd.com). He was named to the BIG EAST Conference Honor Roll on March 2 after averaging 24.0 ppg. for two games.
