Musketeers return to Hayden Field for three-game series with Wofford this weekend
CINCINNATIÂ - Xavier baseball dropped a midweek match-up to Ohio State, 8-4, in 10 innings at Hayden Field on Wednesday. The loss evened the season series at 1-1.
The Musketeers moved to 6-16 on the year, while the Buckeyes moved to 7-12.
Ohio State picked up a run in the first and a pair in the second to take a 3-0 lead into the bottom of two. The Musketeers picked up three runs on three hits in the second to even the score. Jonathan Fitz led off the inning with a walk and moved to second on a single from Luke Hammond. A double from Peter Johnson brought Fitz home, and Hammond scored on a ground ball from Canterberry. Carter Christenson doubled to left to bring in Johnson to tie the score at 3-3.
Xavier moved in front in the fifth after Christenson got on with a single, moved to second on a wild pitch and came home on single from Jorge Valdes to lead 4-3. Ohio State scored in the sixth to make it 4-4, with the tie holding through the ninth to force extra innings.
The Buckeyes scored four in the top of the 10th and the Musketeers were unable to counter in the bottom of the frame to set the final score at 8-4.
The Musketeers remain at home for a three-game series with Wofford this weekend, set to get underway on Friday, March 20, at 3:00 p.m. and run through Sunday. All three games will be streamed on ESPN+.
