Baseball Falls in Game Two with Wofford

Rubber match set for Sunday at 1 PM at Hayden Field
CINCINNATIÂ - Xavier baseball dropped the second game of the three-game series with Wofford, 14-2, in seven innings at Hayden Field on Saturday afternoon.
The setback evened the series with at one game each with the finale set for Sunday afternoon. The Musketeers moved to 7-17 on the year, while the Terriers improved to 15-9.
Wofford posted three runs in the first inning, with the Musketeers getting a run back in the bottom of the frame to got to the second with the Terriers ahead, 3-1. Jorge Valdes led off the first for the Musketeers with a walk, moved to second on a single from Clay Burdette and third on a fielder's choice from Jonathan Fitz. Valdes came home on a wild pitch to get the Musketeers on the board.
Another three-run frame for the Terriers in the second made it a 6-1 lead. A six-run fourth and pair of runs in the fifth stretched the Wofford lead to 14-1.
A solo home run from Tanner Thomas put another run on the board for the Musketeers in the seventh, but the game ended following the inning on a run rule at 14-2.
The Musketeers wrap up the series with Wofford at Hayden Field on Sunday, March 22, with a 1:00 p.m. start on ESPN+.

- Tanner Thomas hit his first home run as a Musketeer, a solo shot, to finish 1-1 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored.
