Baseball Falls in Game Three Against Wofford at Hayden Field

Musketeers return home on Tuesday to host Cincinnati
The Musketeers moved to 7-18 on the year, while the Terriers improved to 16-9.
Wofford scored pair in the top of the first, but the Musketeers tied it up in the bottom of the frame to send it to the second tied, 2-2. Jorge Valdes led off the inning with a walk, Clay Burdette got on with a hit-by-pitch, and a single from Peter Johnson loaded the bases for Jonathan Fitz who hit a single to right to bring in Valdes. JD Crisp reached on a fielders choice to bring in Burdette and tie the game.
Xavier moved in front in the second, with Donavan Canterberry getting on with a single, moving to second on a bunt from Valdes and coming home on a double from Burdette to make it a 3-2 Xavier lead.
The one-run lead held into the fifth, when Wofford scored a pair to take the 4-3 lead, but the Musketeers got the run back in the bottom fo the frame with Burdette hitting a triple and coming home on a single from Peter Johnson to tie it at 4-4.
The Terriers added a pair of runs in both the sixth and the eighth frames to lead 8-4 headed to the bottom of eight. Luke Hammond led off the frame with a single, moved to third on a double from Canterberry and scored on a sac fly from Valdes, but the Musketeers would get no closer, setting the final score at 8-5.
Xavier returns to Hayden Field on Tuesday, March 24, hosting Cincinnati as part of the Joe Nuxhall Classic. The game with the Bearcats is set to get underway at 3:00 p.m on XAVIER+.

- Owen Poole entered with two on and two out in the fifth, going 0.2 innings, allowing two runs on two hits with two walks.
- Garrett Helsel entered with one on and one out in the sixth, going 2.1 innings, allowing two runs on three hits, walking one and matching his season-high with four strikeouts.
- Nick Boyle entered with two on and two out in the eighth, going 1.0 scoreless inning with out allowing a hit, walking one and striking out three.
- Jake Hooker entered for the final out, getting it with a picked-off base runner.
