Men's Basketball Prepares For Marquette In The BIG EAST Tournament First Round

Musketeers have met the Golden Eagles four previous times in the BET.
CINCINNATI --- The No. 10 seed Xavier University Musketeers will take on the No. 7 seed Marquette University Golden Eagles in the first round of the 2026 BIG EAST Conference Men's Basketball Tournament at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Madison Square Garden in New York. The winner of that game takes on No. 2 seed UConn in Thursday's quarterfinals.
Xavier and Marquette have met four times in the tournament with each team winning twice. Then-No. 25 Marquette beat XU 89-87 in last year's quarterfinals. XU is 2-1 vs. MU in the BET quarterfinals with wins in 2014 and 2016.

• Xavier and Marquette are meeting for the second-straight year in their BIG EAST Tournament opener. XU and MU have split four previous meetings in the tournament.
• Xavier, 14-17 overall and 6-14 in the BIG EAST Conference, is the No. 10 seed.
• Xavier leads the BIG EAST and is 11th in the nation in assist-to-turnover ratio at 1.77. XU is second in the BIG EAST and 17th in the nation in assists at 17.7 apg.
• Xavier has connected on a school record 292 3-pointers this season.
• Xavier graduate student Tre Carroll was named to the All-BIG EAST Conference First Team by the league coaches. Carroll is the fifth Musketeer to be named to the BIG EAST First Team since XU joined the league for the 2013-14 season, joining Souley Boum (2023), current Dallas Maverick Naji Marshall (2020), Trevon Bluiett (2016, 2017 and 2018) and Semaj Christon (2014).
• Xavier's Tre Carroll is second in the BIG EAST in scoring at 18.0 ppg. for all games, 0.1 ppg. behind the league leader. Carroll has recorded a team-high 26 double-figure scoring games and a team-high 14 games with 20 points or more despite missing all but four minutes of the March 3 game vs. Seton Hall and the entire game at Villanova on March 7 with an injury.
• Xavier sophomore Jovan Milićević has scored in double figures in 13 of the last 15 games, including 21 points at Villanova on Saturday. He has averaged 14.5 ppg. over the last 15 games, including a career-high 23 points (hitting 5-7 3-pointers) in the Marquette win on Feb. 14.
• Xavier senior Filip Borovićanin leads the team in rebounding (sixth in the BIG EAST at 7.6 rpg.) and assists (sixth in the BIG EAST at 4.2 apg.) and is second in assist-to-turnover ratio (fifth in the BIG EAST at 2.52). He is third in the BIG EAST with nine double-doubles.
• Xavier senior Malik Messina-Moore was second on the team in scoring for BIG EAST games at 13.1 ppg., which ranked 17th in the league. He scored in double figures in 16 of XU's 20 BIG EAST games, including 22 points at Marquette on Jan. 7.
• Xavier graduate student Roddie Anderson III, Xavier's fourth-leading scorer at 10.8 ppg., was named BIG EAST Sixth Man of the Year by HoopsHD (hoopshd.com). He was named to the BIG EAST Conference Honor Roll on March 2 after averaging 24.0 ppg. for two games.
