Musketeers End Season with Loss to San Diego State

CINCINNATI - The Xavier lacrosse team dropped a 10-5 decision to San Diego State in the season finale at Corcoran Field.Â
Samantha Balara and Haley Reeck each scored two goals. Balara finished the season tied with Megan Droney for the team lead of 32 points.
Jada Brandon and Riley Ohrel spent time in goal, each allowing five goals for a combined .474 save percentage.
The Musketeers out shot SDSU 26-25 while both teams took 19 shots on goal. Xavier led the draw 9-8 and caused 12 turnovers compared to the Aztecs' eight.
Xavier finishes the season with a 3-14 record (1-5 BIG EAST) while San Diego State posted a 3-13 record (0-5 Big 12).

The Aztecs scored the opening goal at the 10:24 mark of the first quarter. The Musketeers responded with back-to-back goals from Haley Reeck and Gabby Bouman to take a 2-1 lead heading into the second quarter.
SDSU kicked off the second frame with a goal in the first minute of play. Samantha Balara then scored her first of the afternoon at the 11:31 mark to regain Xavier's lead at 3-2.
The Aztecs responded with a free position goal followed by a second goal less than a minute later for their first lead of the afternoon at 4-3.
Reeck scored her second goal off a feed from Megan Droney in front of the net to tie the game once again, but the Aztecs scored on another free position shot with under two minutes to go to take a 5-4 lead at halftime.
The Musketeers were outscored 5-1 in the second half as San Diego State scored two unanswered in the third quarter to extend their lead to 7-4.
The Aztecs continued their scoring streak into the fourth quarter with another free position goal at the 13:38 mark.
Balara scored again assisted by Maya Graham to cut into the lead and make it an 8-5 game in favor of SDSU.
San Diego State went on to score two more goals and secure a season-ending 10-5 win over Xavier.
