Musketeers Take Comeback Win in 10 Innings at Miami (Ohio)

Xavier heads to Atlanta to face No. 3 Georgia Tech in three-game series
The Musketeers improved to 21-25 on the season, while the RedHawks dropped to 29-14 overall.
Runs in the second and third for Miami gave the Redhawks a 2-0 lead going into the fourth. Tommy Townsend led off the fourth frame with a solo home run to get the Musketeers on the board and cut the Miami lead in half, 2-1.
Xavier tied it at 2-2 in the fifth after Clay Burdette reached and advanced to second on an error, moved to third on a groundball from Jonathan Fitz and scored on a double from Luke Hammond. The RedHawks moved back in front with a run in the fifth and added three in the sixth to lead 6-2.Â
The Musketeers picked up a pair of runs in the seventh, with Burdette getting on with a lead-off walk, and Josh Stonehouse moving him to third with a single. A double from Fitz brought in Burdette, and Stonehouse came home on a ground ball from Hammond to cut the Miami lead to two, 6-4.
Miami took a 6-4 lead into the ninth, where Stonehouse got on with a hit-by-pitch, moved to second on a ground ball, and third on a single from Hammond. Stonehouse scored on a double from Landon Mensik to cut the lead to one, and Hammond came home on a sac fly from Townsend to tie it at 6-6. Miami got the winning run in scoring position in the bottom of the inning but the Musketeers got out of the frame with a groundball and a double play to send it to extras.
Xavier got the first three batters aboard in the 10th, with Donavan Canterberry hitting a single, Jorge Valdes reaching on an error, and Burdette being hit by a pitch to load the bases. Josh Stonehouse and Fitz each took a bases-loaded walk to put Xavier in front 8-6. Burdette came home on a groundball from Hammond to make it a 9-6 lead. Fitz came home on a wild pitch to put Xavier in front 10-6 headed to the bottom of the inning.
A solo home run cut the Xavier lead to three, but the RedHawks were unable to cut into the deficit any further, setting the final score at 10-7.

- Joey Arend went 4.0 innings in the start, allowing two runs on four hits, finishing with a season-high five strikeouts to two walks.
- Jake Hooker came in from the pen for the fifth, allowing four runs on five hits in 1.2 innings of work, walking one and striking out one.
- Owen Poole entered with one on and two outs in the sixth, going 3.1 innings with out allowing a run, giving up just two hits and striking out five to match his career high. Poole picked up the win, his first of the season.
- Garrett Helsel pitched the 10th frame, allowing one run on one hit and striking out one.
