Baseball Tops Wright State, Finishes Joe Nuxhall Classic at 2-0

Musketeers host Villanova for three-game series this weekend at Hayden Field
MASON, Ohio - Xavier baseball wrapped up the 2026 edition of the Joe Nuxhall Classic at 2-0 after taking a 4-2 win over Wright State at Prasco Park on Tuesday evening.
The Musketeers moved to 13-21 on the year, while the Raiders dropped to 14-15.Â
Jorge Valdes took a lead-off walk in the bottom of the first, moved to second on a single from Josh Stonehouse and came home on a single from Jonathan Fitz to give Xavier the early lead.
Xavier made it a 2-0 lead after the second, with Carter Christenson getting on with a one-out walk, stole second, and scoring on a single from Valdes.
Donavan Canterberry got on with a one-out walk in the fourth, moved to second on a groundball from Christenson, and scored on another RBI single from Valdes to make it a 3-0 Xavier lead.
Wright State picked up a run in the fifth to cut Xavier's lead to two, 3-1, which held into the seventh, when a solo home run from Clay Burdette pushed Xavier's lead back to three, 4-1.
Another Raider run came across in the seventh to cut the lead to two, 4-2, but the Musketeers held Wright State off the board for the final two frames to take the two-run win.
The win wrapped up action in the Joe Nuxhall Classic for the Musketeers, who went 2-0 in the event after also topping Cincinnati, 4-3, at Hayden Field on March 24. After the first round game between Miami (Ohio) and Wright State was rained out, second round opponents were predetermined. Cincinnati will face Miami on Wednesday at Prasco Park in the final game of the event, set for a 5:00 p.m. start.
Xavier returns to Hayden Field this weekend to host Villanova for a three-game series, set to get underway on Friday, April 10, and run through Sunday, April 12.

- Karter Muck entered with two on and one out in the eighth, going the final 1.2 innings without allowing a run. Muck allowed three hits and one walk, striking out a pair on the way to picking up his second save of the season.
