Baseball Takes Game Three with Creighton, Earns Share of BIG EAST Regular Season Title

Musketeers earn No. 3 seed in BIG EAST Tournament, start play with No. 2 seed UConn
CINCINNATIÂ - Xavier baseball clinched a share of the 2026 BIG EAST Regular Season Championship with a 5-3 win over Creighton at Hayden Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Musketeers improved to 27-28 (15-6 BIG EAST), while the Bluejays moved to 29-24 (13-8 BIG EAST). Xavier took the 2-1 series win over Creighton, the Musketeers' fifth series win in BIG EAST play.
Creighton took a 1-0 lead in the first on a solo home run, and took the one run advantage into the third when the Musketeers moved in front with a four-run frame. Walks from Donavan Canterberry and Jorge Valdes put two on for Clay Burdette, who hit a single through the right side to bring in Canterberry and tie the score at 1-1.
Josh Stonehouse walked to load the bases, and Luke Hammond singled through the left side to bring in Valdes and Burdette and put the Musketeers in front, 3-1. Stonehouse scored on a wild pitch to cap off the scoring for the inning, with Musketeers holding the 4-1 advantage.
Xavier picked up another run in the fourth after Tanner Thomas and Donavan Canterberry were both hit by pitches, and both moved into scoring position on a wild pitch. Thomas came home on another wild pitch to make it a 5-1 Xavier lead.
Evan Vasiliou made the start, holding Creighton to one run on one hit, facing the minimum in the four innings and retiring 13-straight batters at one point. The Bluejays picked up a pair of runs in the ninth before Owen Poole picked up the final out to earn his third save of the season.
With the win, Xavier finished league play at 15-6, earning a share of the 2026 BIG EAST Regular Season Championship. The title is Xavier's second regular season championship since joining the BIG EAST, also winning the regular season crown in 2016.
Xavier shares the league title with St. John's and UConn and earned the No. 3 seed in the 2026 BIG EAST Tournament at Prasco Park in Mason, Ohio. The Musketeers open tournament play on Wednesday, May 20, at 6:30 p.m. against No. 2 seed UConn. St. John's earned the No. 1 seed and will face No. 4 Creighton on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at Prasco Park.

- Owen Poole entered with two outs and the bases loaded in the ninth, picking up the final out to earn his third save of the season.
