NEW YORK - Xavier baseball right-handed pitcher Michael Murphy was named the BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
Murphy went a season-high 6.1 innings of relief in Xavier's 8-4 win in 10 innings at No. 3 Georgia Tech, throwing a season-high six strikeouts. The junior from Mason, Ohio, limited the nation's No. 1 offense to only nine hits and two runs. Georgia Tech entered the game ranked No. 1 in total runs (467) and batting average (.356). Xavier's pitching staff limited the Yellow Jackets to four runs, only the seventh time Georgia Tech has be held to four or fewer runs in a game this season.
The Musketeers return to action this weekend, traveling to Butler for a three-game series, set to get underway on Friday, May 8.
