Tapia scores game-winner; Reuland, Berry and O'Brien add insurance goals

CINCINNATI - Xavier women's soccer picked up a 4-0 win over Dayton on Thursday evening at Corcoran Field. The Musketeers moved to 3-2 on the year with the win.

After the match was briefly delayed due to weather, Xavier struck early taking the lead on Maria Tapia's first goal of the season. Tapia's eventual game-winner, off an assist from Peyton Kohls, came less than ten minutes into the match.

Frances Reuland's first goal of the year doubled the lead with just over 10 minutes remaining in the first half, off service from Alexis Morrison, to give Xavier a two-goal advantage going into the break.

Dayton held a 6-5 advantage on shots in the first half, but the Musketeers had three looks on frame to just one for Dayton.

Midway through the first half, McKinley Berry picked up her first score of the season, off assists from Peyton Kohls and Reese Sochacki, to put the Musketeers in front, 3-0.

Less than 10 minutes later, Brooklyn O'Brien made it a 4-0 lead, sneaking the ball inside the far post on a free kick for her third tally of the season.

Xavier finished with a 12-9 advantage on shots, and an 8-2 advantage on shots on-goal. Sami Lipcon collected both Flyer looks on-frame to keep the shutout intact, Xavier's second clean sheet of the season.

The Musketeers remain at home to host Western Michigan on Sunday, Sept. 13 at Corcoran Field. The Musketeers and the Broncos get underway at 1:00 p.m. on XAVIER+.

Xavier finished with season highs for goals (4) and points (12) and matched its season high for assists (4).
Sami Lipcon made the start in-goal, collecting two saves with no goals against in 77 minutes of action, helping Xavier to a second shutout on the year.
Gianna Mlynek made her debut as a Musketeer, playing the final 13 minutes in-goal to help the Musketeers to the clean sheet.
Nastassja Garrett and Elizabeth Powell played the full 90 minutes on the Xavier backline.
The win over the Flyers marks the third-straight victory and fifth-straight result against Xavier's former A10 rival.
