Mario Mercurio, Associate Athletics Director for Basketball Administration, is entering his 22nd year with Xavier Basketball. Mercurio has been a big part of the men’s basketball program’s success and the many transformational changes to Cintas Center, particularly those areas that directly impact the student-athletes. That includes the transformation of the men’s basketball locker room, the basketball offices, Crawford Family Film Suite and the Klekamp Family Training Center, including the expanded strength and conditioning area.
Mercurio has served as Xavier’s administrative point person for many areas impacting the basketball program. He serves as a key conduit to Nike Basketball, the BIG EAST Conference and FOX. He plays a major role in the program’s branding and social media efforts, non-conference schedule planning and the program’s structure around Name, Image and Likeness.
Mercurio, who started as a student worker under the late former XU head coach Skip Prosser, has been a key part of the basketball staffs of Travis Steele, Chris Mack, Sean Miller and Thad Matta.
A Cincinnati St. Xavier High School graduate, Mercurio graduated in 2003 from Xavier’s Williams College of Business with a double major in finance and marketing. Mercurio also received his MBA at Xavier. He and his wife Meghan live in his hometown, Cincinnati.
