Alex Kamphaus joined the Xavier men's soccer program ahead of the 2021 season as the director of goalkeeping. He was promoted to assistant coach in March of 2023.
In three seasons at Xavier on Coach Higgins staff (2022-24), Kamphaus has coached six players to All-BIG EAST honors, including 2022 BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year, Cole Jensen. He has also coached three MLS Draft Picks, including Matthew Senanou in 2024 - the highest draft pick in school history (sixth overall pick to the Colorado Rapids).
Kamphaus helped Cole Jensen earn USC All-American Third Team honors in 2022, becoming only the second player in school history to earn the honors.
Kamphaus helped the Musketeers win the 2023 BIG EAST Tournament, the first in program history. Xavier advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the fifth time in school history and the first time since 2014. The Musketeers also had two top-25 wins during the season.
Statistically, two of the top-five single-season team goals against averages in school history were under Kamphaus leadership - including a school-record 0.83 GAA in 2023. He has coached four of the top-10 single-season school record holders in GAA and three of the top-five record holders in single-season shutouts.
In 2021, he coached All-BIG EAST performer Matthew Rosenberg who finished the season with five shutouts and 41 saves. He posted a 1.04 goals against average and a .695 saves percentage. Rosenberg ranked 53rd in the NCAA in goals against average.
Kamphaus also works at FX Athletic Performance as a FX Trainer and is the Head of Goalkeeping.
The Cincinnati, Ohio, native played collegiately at Otterbein from 2008-11. He holds the United Soccer Coaches Level 1 Goalkeeping License.
