Bio
Lucy Octave joins the Xavier women's tennis program as a graduate transfer after spending four seasons at Utah State.
"We are excited to welcome Lucy to the Xavier tennis family," said Xavier head coach Doug Matthews. "Lucy had a great career at Utah State where she played number 1 singles and was top 10 in career wins. She brings experience and leadership that will really help our team. It was clear during the recruiting process that she is motivated to have a great last year and help us compete for a BIG EAST Championship. We can't wait for her to start in the fall!"
In her four seasons at Utah State, Octave recorded 91 wins in singles and doubles, the 10th most in program history. Her 51 total singles win and 40 doubles wins both rank in the top 12 in Utah State's career records as well.
She started her career at USU with a 21-win singles season in 2016-17, including 11 wins in dual play, mostly in the No. 3 spot. The mark stands at the eighth most in a single season in Aggie program history. She also added 17 doubles wins as a freshman.
Her sophomore campaign was cut short due to injury, but she returned for the spring of her junior season to collect 18 combined singles and doubles wins.
As a senior in 2019-20, Octave recorded an 18-6 singles mark, including going 4-2 in the No. 1 spot in dual match play, and 10-7 in doubles play before the season was cut short.
During her career at Utah State, she was named All-Mountain West Singles in 2020, and earned Mountain West Player of the Week in March 2020. She earned Academic All-MWC in 2017 and Mountain West Scholar Athlete in 2017 and 2019. She also earned Utah State's Whitesides Scholar-Athlete Award in each of her four seasons.
Octave is originally from Donaghadee, Northern Ireland, and she graduated from Regent House School in Newtownards, Northern Ireland. She was rated as the No. 3 singles prospect coming out of Ireland by the Tennis Recruiting Network.
Octave, who graduated from Utah State in May 2020 with a degree in Marketing and Economics, will pursue her masters in Sport Administration at Xavier. She is the daughter of Trevor and Alison Octave and has an older sister.
