Stan Kimbrough was a leader on Xavier's teams in the late '80s, and helped his teams to NCAA Tournament appearances in his three seasons at XU. Kimbrough was most noted as a player for his scoring. He currently ranks 16th on Xavier's all-time scoring chart with 1,596 career points at Xavier, an even more startling stat when you consider he played two of his three years with all-time scoring leader Byron Larkin and all three years with fourth all-time leading scorer Tyrone Hill. Kimbrough transferred to Xavier after playing his freshman year at Central Florida. His collegiate point total is 2,103. Kimbrough scored in double figures in 42 consecutive games as a Musketeer.

Kimbrough, a three-time team captain, played both the point and shooting guard positions at Xavier. In addition to his offensive output, he earned much recognition for his defense as well. In 1989, he was named the Musketeer "Defensive Player of the Year." That year he set the fourth-highest single season steal total in school history with 69. Kimbrough is tied for the second most steals in a game with three other Musketeers for snatching eight as a senior in an upset win over fourth ranked Louisville in November, 1988. He also scored a career high 35 points in that game at Riverfront Coliseum.

Kimbrough received numerous awards for his play, including having been honored twice on the MCC's All-Conference Second Team and All-Tournament Team. During his senior season, he was also Honorable Mention All-Midwest by Basketball Weekly, and Honorable Mention All-Mideast by the Basketball Times. Following his college playing days, Kimbrough spent two seasons in the NBA, one with the Detroit Pistons and one with the Sacramento Kings.

Kimbrough's work off the court is just as noteworthy as his work on it. He graduated from Xavier with a degree in social work, and worked in the community. As a student, he worked as a counselor of three young boys at the St. Aloysius Orphanage in Cincinnati. Kimbrough continues to be very involved in the community. One of his more recent projects is starting a program called "Kimbrough for Kids", a free tutoring session for kids who need help with reading and writing.
