Volleyball Wins in Five Over Campbell

ATLANTA – Xavier volleyball defeated Campbell 3-2 at the Georgia Tech Tournament Friday, Sept. 4.
Xavier moves to 2-2 overall this season.
Five Musketeers hit above .300 in the victory with Ava Tilden leading the team in kills with 16. She hit .355 Friday afternoon.
Kelsey Niesen had 18 of the team's 61 digs against Campbell. She also had five assists and a service ace.
Charlotte Moriarty took the first point of the match on a kill and the Musketeers went up 3-0 before Campbell scored. The Camels then got to 10 points and took the lead on an XU error. McKinley Boehm tied the set 11 all on a service ace. Xavier would not again find the lead as Campbell secured the first frame.
Xavier dominated the second set, claiming a 25-16 victory. Back-to-back kills from Tilden, Boehm and Quincy Thomas took the Musketeers to 25 to end the set. Niesen's service ace came in the second set to propel Xavier over Campbell. The camels tied the set nine all, but XU would pull away, and Campbell would not have a chance to respond.
In the third set, the Musketeers defeated Campbell 25-22. Xavier had six of the first eight points of the set, going up 6-2 over Campbell. Moriarty took Xavier up seven on a service ace for a score of 11-4. Boehm took XU to set point on a kill before Campbell went on a 5-0 run. Niesen assisted Moriarty for the final kill to win the third set.
Campbell and Xavier stayed within a point of each other before the Camels pulled away 10-7 in the fourth set. Xavier would bring it within two at 17-19 when Margo Kemp tallied a kill, but Campbell would not relieve the lead and took the fourth set 25-22.
In the fifth and final set, Xavier allowed Campbell to score just four of the first 13 points. Xavier surpassed single digits on a Camel error and went up 11-6 before Campbell went on a 3-0 run. A trio of Campbell errors ended the set 15-10 for Xavier's second victory.
