Women's Basketball Snaps Losing Skid

The win snaps Xavier?s four-game losing streak. The Musketeers will play Toledo in the championship game on Sunday.
Xavier got career nights from its reserves in the win. Colleen Yukes (Edmonton, Alberta/McNally) and Nikki Wells (Woodbridge, Va./Gar-Field) both scored career highs in the first half, and Ashleigh Cuncic (Carlisle, Ontario/St. Mary?s) tied her career best for the game.
Yukes ended with eight points on 4-of-5 shooting. Wells added five points and Cuncic finished with seven.
After the Red Flash opened up the game with a 4-0 lead, the Musketeers used a 14-4 run to lead 14-8 seven minutes into the game.
St. Francis clawed back into the contest and tied it up at 20-all with nine minutes left in the first half.
XU used a 10-2 run over the next three and a half minutes to reclaim control of the game, and the Musketeers stretched the advantage to as many as 10 before holding a 39-30 lead at the break.
Xavier slowly extended its lead during the second half of the game to pull away for the win.
Amy Waugh (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) led the Musketeers with 16 points and eight assists. Backcourt-mate Reetta Piipari (Kotka, Finland/Minster (Ohio)) added 11 points and seven assists.
Senior Shavon Bell (Euclid, Ohio/Cincinnati State) added 14 while grabbing seven rebounds. Kate Kreager tossed in 10 for the Musketeers.
Beth Swink led St. Francis with 14 points, and Clarin Chesick added 12.
The consolation game will kick off the action Sunday at 1 p.m. with St. Francis playing Howard.
The Musketeers will play Toledo immediately following the consolation game for the 2001 Provident Bank Xavier Invitational Championship. The Rockets beat Howard 80-61 on Saturday
