Rachel Reilly, A-10 commissioner Linda Bruno announced, has received the 2001 postgraduate scholarship. The award is presented annually by the A-10 to four students, two male and two female. It is given to the students who express an interest in continuing their educations.
"The Atlantic 10 is proud to be able to provide opportunities for its student-athletes to continue their educations," says Bruno. "These young women and men are prime examples of what college athletics is all about - succeeding academically and athletically. We wish them all the best in their future endeavors."
Reilly, who graduated this past spring, finished her academics at Xavier with a 3.72 grade point average as a biology major with a minor in chemistry. Reilly plans on attending medical school in the fall.
Reilly was captain of the swim team her senior year, specializing in the breaststroke and freestyle. Reilly set records for the Musketeers' women's swim team in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, and 200 breaststroke. She also swam legs of the 200 and 400 freestyle relays and the 200 and 400 medley relays.
Previous Xavier students to win the award were former men's soccer player Maringo Vlijter in 1999, swimmer Pat Wolf in 1998, and swimmer Joe Leibold in 1996.
