Valparaiso Stops Men's Soccer Unbeaten Streak

CINCINNATI --- The Xavier men?s soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision Sunday at home to Vaparaiso. The Musketeers (1-5-1) tied the game at 1-all midway through the first half, but a pair of Crusader goals in the second half put the game away for Valpo.

Scott Daly put Valparaiso on the board with a breakaway goal 19 minutes into the game. Xavier?s Rob Bakker (The Netherlands) evened the score when blasted a free kick from just outside the box into the left side of the net.

Billy Wanecke scored the game-winner with a header off a corner kick in the 63rd minute. Mark Korba added an insurance goal for Valpo (3-3) with less than three minutes left in the match.

It was the first loss for Xavier in three matches. The Musketeers return to action Friday at Corcoran Field at 7 p.m. against Davidson.
