CINCINNATI--- Xavier University Swim Coach George Rathman announced the hiring of his program's first fulltime assistant coach on Thursday. Chris Gage, a former standout at the Indiana University, will join the Xavier swim program later this month.
“We are very happy to have someone the caliber of Chris join us on the Xavier staff,” Rathman said. “His enthusiasm and energy are contagious, which is great for the entire team.”
Gage spent four years swimming while a student at Indiana. He competed in the 500, 1000 and 1650 Free events. He earned Big 10 All-Conference honors in all four of his years as a Hoosier. In addition, he twice competed in the United States Swimming Association Nationals.
After graduating from IU in 1999 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Marketing, Gage moved to Chicago to work as a recruiter for the Allegis Group. He was then transferred to Cincinnati and has mostly worked locally for Allegis as an Account Recruiting Manager.
“Chris has a lot of credentials given his college swimming experience at Indiana,” Rathman said. “That experience coupled with his recent professional experience makes us look to Chris to immediately make a major impact on the program in terms of recruiting.”
His Indiana experience was part of his 16 years career. Included on his swimming resume are successful years at Pennsbury High School in Yardley, Pa., and with the Eastern Express Swim Club.
Gage and his wife Rhonda live in Cincinnati.
